YouTube opens its Masthead slot to gambling advertisers
Google is changing its ad policy so that licensed online gambling operators can run YouTube Masthead campaigns from 21 October 2026.
What the Masthead is
The Masthead is YouTube's most prominent ad unit, sitting at the top of the home feed and often the first thing a viewer sees. It looks different on desktop, mobile and TV screens, and video ads in the slot usually autoplay muted.
- The change applies from 21 October 2026.
- Advertisers must follow Google's gambling ad policy.
- A licence or certification is needed in every country where the ad runs.
Who can buy it
The restrictions stay in place: advertisers must comply with Google's gambling rules and hold a licence or certification for each territory they target. Unlicensed sites cannot buy the placement.
The wider picture
The move comes as campaigns against gambling advertising grow in the UK, Australia and the US, and as Meta faces criticism, including from the UK Gambling Commission, over illegal ads. See our story on Paf's pilot with Meta.
Our advice
A licensed ad tells you nothing about the fine print. Check wagering before you claim anything – start with our guides to no wagering casinos and welcome bonuses.
